DEER LAKE, N.L. -- RCMP in Newfoundland say a medical examiner has confirmed that remains found following a cabin fire in western Newfoundland are human.

Police have said as many as three sets of remains were found Tuesday in the ruins of a cabin on Whitewash Road in the Deer Lake area.

But investigators have not confirmed their cause of death or their identities.

The Mounties are not saying whether investigators consider the fire suspicious.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
