MONTREAL -- Weeks of hot, dry weather in much of Canada is causing growing concerns -- literally.

It's spreading fear among many farmers that their crops will be ruined if the rain doesn't soon return.

Corn farmers in Ontario say the dry conditions will make it difficult for pollination.

Some parts of southern Quebec haven't had rain since July 4th, and apple growers in the province are predicting their crop will be down 15 per cent from last year.

In New Brunswick, several municipalities are asking residents to conserve water by not washing cars or watering lawns.

The heat and lack and rain have also raised the threat of forest fires to extreme levels in parts of Alberta, Quebec and Ontario, triggering bans on all outdoor fires.

Quebec has already had 460 forest fires this year -- more than 50 above the average for this time of year.
