EDMONTON -- Residents who lost their homes in the Fort McMurray wildfire are being provided with longer-term temporary housing.

The Alberta government says it is moving up to 65 housing units to the city for families who are waiting for their homes to be rebuilt.

The province says a survey done in July and August indicated a need for three- and four-bedroom homes.

Residents will be able to apply for accommodation at a demonstration house to be set up on Sept. 9 in Fort McMurray.

The province says market rents will be charged and families will be able to move into the homes starting next month.

The temporary units are to be located in the Parsons Creek district and will be available for up to two years.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is working on options to meet the needs of those who require one or two bedrooms.
