VANCOUVER -- A mom from British Columbia will be in Ottawa on Remembrance Day to lay a wreath on behalf every Canadian mother whose child has died while serving in the military.
The Royal Canadian Legion has named Roxanne Marie Priede of Grand Forks, B.C., as this year's Silver Cross Mother.
Priede will lay the wreath during ceremonies at the National War Memorial on Nov. 11.
She lost her son, Master Cpl. Darrell Jason Priede, in May 2007, when the Chinook helicopter carrying the 30-year-old crashed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
He had been in that country for just over one month, serving as a photographer for the Air Force, and was the 56th Canadian soldier to die in the Afghan conflict.
Priede, who will be joined by her husband John on the trip to Ottawa, remembers her eldest child as modest, soft-spoken and kind-hearted.
