From smoked chorizo to flavoured goat cheese, delicatessen-inspired pizza toppings have become a standard menu item at many pizza joints. But one Vancouver-area pizzeria has possibly topped all of them, with a $450 gourmet pie.
Listed as menu item C6 at , the high-brow pie features Lobster Thermidor, black Alaskan cod, smoked salmon, tiger prawns and Russian Osetra caviar.
"It's not your usual Friday night pizza," owner Nader Hatami told CTV Vancouver on Friday.
The pricey pie is considered the most expensive in world, according to the Guinness World Record. Celebrity chef's Gordon Ramsay’s $178 white truffle, fontina cheese pizza previously held the .
"I just kept on going with the ingredients," Hatami said of his creation, which was borne from his love for seafood.
The decadent 12-inch pizza -- which has to be pre-ordered one day before pickup -- is divided into 10 servings, making each slice worth $45.
Unsurprisingly, the C6 is not among Hatami's most popular items. "I've sold about eight of these," he said, adding that customers who buy the pizza generally do so to "impress a crowd."
But if $450 is a bit too steep, Hatami also offers a less expensive, but still over-the-top pie. Coming in at $120, the C5 comes with Icelandic scampi, smoked steelhead, lobster ratatouille and roasted garlic.
