Toronto paramedics say a 10-year-old boy is in serious but stable condition after being shot on Friday night.

The incident occurred at around 11:40 p.m. in the city’s east end.

The victim’s 13-year-old cousin said she and the boy were asleep at his house when bullets started coming through the window.

"His mom thought he was just screaming because he got scared but...his sister came running down because she wanted to see if everything was fine and then she saw him bleeding," she said.

Officials said the boy was shot in the shoulder. He was rushed to The Hospital for Sick Children to receive treatment. Police say he is expected to make a full recovery from the injury.

Toronto police have not released any information regarding possible suspects.

The department’s major crimes unit is investigating the shooting.
