NEWFOUNDLAND

3R Runway and Exhibition

In an attempt to increase public awareness about the environmental issues of conservation and sustainability, several like-minded groups have joined forces to inspire action from our citizens around these issues with an art and environment festival. One part of that festival is the 3R Exhibition taking place from June 30th - July 7th.

Another is the 3R Runway Fashion Show of wearable art and earth friendly fashion in conjunction with OXFMs LIVE EARTH DAY EVENT JULY 7th on George Street!

Opening reception for children from 3-5pm and later evening event 8pm, June 30th.

There will be an open workshop on June 26th from noon-4pm, where participants are asked to bring a few materials they wish to recycle and we will make artworks in the gallery with the guidance of a recycling expert.

A panel discussion will take place on July 5th at 7:30 pm discussing the intersection of artists working with environmental themes and those working with environmentally sound materials.

Moderator: Jennifer Morgan, Artists: Will Gill, Tara Bryan, Craig Francis Power and Art conservator: Miki Lee and Myriam Beaulne, an environmental health awareness coordinator.

Together Eastern Edge Gallery, the Anna Templeton Centre, Craft Council of NL, Newfoundland & Labrador Environment Network, and the Sierra Club of Canada (Atlantic Chapter) will stage pARTicpACTION in your ENVIRONMENT a two-week festival (June 23-July 7, 2007) using the arts as a vehicle to raise awareness in the community about environmental issues. The festival will include an exhibition, lectures, workshops, kids' camps, gala fashion show, and a family fun day.

The festival's title pARTicpACTION in your ENVIRONMENT highlights three words which are at the core of the events' purpose - art, action and the environment. Using art we hope to engage individuals and get them to act in the best interest of the environment. And in turn, the arts organizations are hoping to reach a new audience through the environmental theme. Overall, the more action we can inspire the more benefit there will be for our environment and for all citizens in our community.
