An unidentified man who apparently bid $3,550 for a snowbank has reportedly backed away from his purchase.

The seller, Michel Levesque, thought he had figured out a very modern way to get rid of the snow in his front yard -- he offered it on eBay.

Levesque, who lives in a town north of Montreal called Saint-Eustache, said he first posted his massive snowbank on the online auction site as a joke.

"I don't know who would want snow, but anyway it's for a good cause, so why not?" he told CTV Montreal in French.

Levesque had hoped to donate the money to a local youth organization. After he first posted the item on Dec. 21, the bidding rose sharply, before closing at $3,550.

It's unclear what Levesque will do now that the buyer has distanced himself from the auction.

Levesque's apparent success at selling the snowbank had inspired him to try other auctions for charity, following a seasonal theme.

In the summer, Levesque had hoped to auction off his grass clippings, he said. And in the fall, he wanted to sell his dead leaves.
