HALIFAX -- The Alibaba Group will distribute children's programming such as "Teletubbies" in China through a deal with DHX Media (TSX:DHX.B).

It's the first deal between the Halifax-based entertainment company and Alibaba, a major e-commerce company that operates primarily in China.

The DHX-Alibaba agreement covers more than 2,500 half-hour episodes of content for Alibaba's video-on-demand service, which is available through set-top boxes, smart televisions and other devices.

The titles include "Teletubbies" -- a British series that DHX distributes globally -- as well as "Caillou," "Paddington Bear," and "Johnny Test."

DHX Media didn't provide financial details of the agreement.
