Tesla is voluntarily recalling roughly 2,700 new Model X SUVS for recently discovered issues with its third-row seat backs possibly folding forward in collisions. The automaker uncovered the flaw with the Model X's third-row seat recliner, which it buys from supplier Futuris SA, during strength tests performed ahead of the SUV's export to Europe. The SUV passed the test all of the 15 times it was run ahead of its going on sale in North America.

During the European market-launch tests, a recliner in a Model X third row seat back slipped unexpectedly, allowing it to fold forward, reported CNET. Tesla has received no customer complaints regarding the defect, and is simply launching the recall as a pro-active measure. It asks that owners do not use the third-row seats until the affected part has been replaced.
