MONTREAL - An Air France passenger jet landing from Paris at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport missed the runway slightly Tuesday afternoon, ending up with the nose wheel parked on the grass alongside the tarmac.

"The plane overshot the runway," said Const. Laurent Gingras of the Montreal police. "It got stuck at the end of the runway."

There were no injuries among the roughly 500 passengers and crew on the wide-bodied jet.

Emergency vehicles raced to the site of the landing but there were no problems. Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft safely and shuttled to the airport in groups.

There was no apparent damage to the aircraft, most of which sat on its landing gear on the runway. Only the nose and its landing wheels were off the runway.

The plane was making a routine landing at 5:49 p.m. when the incident happened.

The federal Transportation Safety Board may be asked to investigate the cause of the incident, airport officials said.
