KABUL - A suicide car bomb attack near a convoy of international troops today killed a 13-year-old Afghan child and wounded a soldier and four Afghans.

NATO and Khost provincial police chief Gen. Mohammad Ayub say the bomber attacked a four-vehicle convoy of troops in the eastern province of Khost.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force did not identify the nationalities of the soldiers, although most troops in Khost province are American.

The attack came two days after a suicide car bomb exploded near U.S. troops in Kabul, killing at least six Afghan civilians.

U.S. officials have predicted another rise in the number of suicide attacks this year because insurgents cannot defeat U.S. and NATO forces in conventional military battles.

According to UN figures, Afghanistan last year saw a record 160 suicide bombings and more than 8,000 people were killed in insurgent violence.
